The results of the first quarter of 2024 indicate that the banking system of Ukraine continued the trend towards a moderate increase in liquidity, provided profitability is maintained. As well as according to the results of 2023, the highest profitability indicators were shown by banks that preferred NBU deposit certificates. In the first quarter of 2024, the quality of banks’ loan portfolios stopped declining. According to surveys conducted by the NBU, banks expect an increase in the quality of loan portfolios. As of April 1, 2024, the average share of non-performing loans (NPL) in the portfolio of banks in the banking system of Ukraine was 36.07%, compared to 37.35% at the beginning of the current year. As predicted by the agency, the level of NPLs in the loan portfolio of banks has stabilized and the quality of the portfolios starts increasing.
