The results of the first half of 2024 indicate that the banking system of Ukraine gradually began to reduce liquidity against the background of growth in the volume of deposits, while the trend towards increasing profitability remained. As well as according to the results of 2023, the highest profitability indicators were shown by banks that preferred NBU deposit certificates and ISLBs. In the first half of 2024, the quality of banks’ loan portfolios stopped declining. According to surveys conducted by the NBU, banks expect an increase in the quality of loan portfolios. As of July 1, 2024, the average share of non-performing loans (NPL) in the portfolio of banks in the banking system of Ukraine was 34.57%, compared to 37.35% at the beginning of the current year. As predicted by the Agency, the level of NPLs in the loan portfolio of banks has stabilized and the quality of the portfolios is steadily improving, including under the influence of the growth of new loans.
